The REACH Regulation (EC)

The REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 entered into force on June 1 2007 and is the main framework for chemical regulation within the EU.

REACH applies to substances manufactured or imported into the EU and replaces approximately 40 European Directives and Regulations with one comprehensive system. REACH is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry.

PAA and REACH

In total 20 active registrations are reported on the ECHA website (dd 07-02-2021).

The first registration was performed in 2010 by Kemira Chemicals Oy as lead registrant. The REACH registered PAA volume reported is between 1,000 and 10,000 tonnes per annum. Among the registered uses following are listed (non-exhaustive list): manufacturing and formulation of PAA, textile care applications, paper, pulp bleaching applications, use for food applications, intermediate use, laboratory use,…
